OUR HISTORY
About the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC)
The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) is an Evangelical, Charismatic Christian ministry founded on strong biblical teaching, spiritual excellence, and community impact. Officially inaugurated on February 26, 1984, in Accra, Ghana, the church began with a humble gathering of just twenty people meeting in a small classroom.
Humble Beginnings, Steady Growth
Between 1984 and April 1986, the church grew from twenty members to about 180 adults in regular attendance. In its early years, ICGC met in a variety of temporary locations, including classrooms, a private residence, a public hall, a science laboratory, a mechanical workshop, and even a cinema theatre, each space representing another step in the church’s unfolding journey.
In May 1986, ICGC moved into the Baden Powell Memorial Hall, a rented Norge Scout facility which became its home for the next decade. During this period, membership increased rapidly, growing to over 4,000 committed believers.
A Decade of Mission and Expansion
This ten-year era marked an extraordinary season of missionary zeal. ICGC planted local assemblies across almost all major towns and cities in Ghana, while also establishing congregations in parts of Europe and the United States. The original congregation, now known as Christ Temple, has since planted over 40 churches within the Accra–Tema metropolis alone.
Raising Leaders, Shaping Futures
In 1988, the church founded a ministerial institute to train a new generation of Christian leaders. What began as a six-month certificate programme has grown into Central University, Ghana’s premier privately-owned university, reflecting ICGC’s long-standing commitment to excellence in education.
That same year, the church launched Central Aid, an educational scholarship scheme designed to support needy students in pre-tertiary institutions. Today, Central Aid is recognized as one of the largest non-governmental scholarship programmes in Ghana, transforming countless lives through access to quality education.
A Church With a Heart for Society
ICGC is a socially conscious church rooted in the values of human dignity, integrity, and excellence. Beyond its spiritual mission, the church actively engages in initiatives and events that uplift communities, address social needs, and bring the message of Christ into homes, workplaces, and public spaces across Ghana and beyond.
