Role Summary 

The Financial Manager will provide strategic financial leadership and oversight for ICGC UK/Europe, ensuring sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and stewardship of church resources. This senior role requires expertise in charity finance combined with understanding of faith-based organizational values and accountability. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Strategic Financial Leadership 

  • Develop and implement financial strategy aligned with ICGC UK/Europe’s mission and strategic objectives 
  • Provide strategic financial advice to senior leadership and Board of Trustees 
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, and long-term sustainability planning 
  • Develop financial models to support strategic decision-making 
  • Oversee investment strategy and treasury management 
  • Assess financial risks and develop mitigation strategies 

Financial Management and Reporting 

  • Oversee all financial operations including accounting, budgeting, and cash flow management 
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for leadership 
  • Prepare annual accounts in accordance with Charity SORP and FRS 102 
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to Charity Commission 
  • Present financial reports to Board of Trustees and leadership meetings 
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and KPIs 

Budgeting and Planning 

  • Lead the annual budgeting process across all church departments and locations 
  • Work with department heads to develop realistic budgets aligned with strategic priorities 
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis 
  • Forecast cash flow and manage working capital 
  • Develop scenario planning for different growth projections 
  • Ensure restricted and unrestricted funds are properly managed 

Compliance and Governance 

  • Ensure compliance with charity accounting regulations (Charity SORP) 
  • Maintain compliance with HMRC, Companies House, and Charity Commission requirements 
  • Oversee gift aid claims and taxation matters 
  • Ensure proper financial controls and internal audit procedures 
  • Manage external audit process and coordinate with auditors 
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures 

Charity Finance Specific 

  • Manage restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with donor intentions 
  • Oversee grant management and reporting to funders 
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment of donations, tithes, and offerings 
  • Manage fundraising income tracking and reporting 
  • Advise on financial aspects of charitable activities 
  • Prepare trustee reports and financial statements for annual report 

Team Leadership 

  • Lead and manage finance team including accountants and finance officers 
  • Develop team capabilities through training and professional development 
  • Ensure adequate finance function capacity across UK/Europe locations 
  • Foster culture of financial stewardship and accountability 
  • Mentor finance staff in technical and professional development 

Systems and Process Improvement 

  • Oversee implementation and management of financial systems 
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency 
  • Ensure robust financial controls and segregation of duties 
  • Implement best practices in charity finance management 
  • Leverage technology to improve financial operations 

Ministry Integration 

  • Ensure financial practices reflect biblical principles of stewardship 
  • Support financial integrity and transparency as witness to Christian values 
  • Balance financial prudence with faith-based generosity 
  • Advise leadership on financial aspects of ministry initiatives 

 

Essential Requirements 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 
  • Essential: Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial management or senior finance leadership role 
  • Essential: Demonstrated expertise in charity accounting and Charity SORP 
  • Essential: Experience managing financial operations for multi-site organizations 
  • Essential: Proven experience in financial strategy development 
  • Desirable: Experience in charity or not-for-profit finance 
  • Desirable: Experience with gift aid and charity taxation 
  • Desirable: Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) 
  • Desirable: Completion of ICGC ABC Bible Class (Ministry Level) or equivalent theological training

Skill Level and Salary Information 

(For UKVI Sponsorship Compliance) 

  • SOC Code: 1131 – Financial Managers and Directors 
  • Skill Level: RQF Level 6 (Bachelor’s degree level) 
  • Annual Salary: £75,100 per annum (based on 37.5 hours per week) 
  • Hourly Rate: £38.51 per hour 
  • Going Rate: £75,100 (standard rate for SOC 1131) 

 

Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) 

Under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010, being a practicing Christian is a genuine occupational requirement for this role. The postholder will be expected to:

Working Conditions 

  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week 
  • Location: ICGC London offices with occasional travel to other UK/Europe locations 
  • Occasional Requirements: Evening work during budget cycles and year-end; UK and international travel as needed
